the possession The Possession
2012
Reviewer: Torrence Fallen
Director: Ole Bornedal
Cast: Jeffery Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, Natasha Calis, Grant Show

Based on a true story.  The Possession, a horror/thriller about a young Girl who finds a box with a someone inside.  Em, (Natasha Calis) finds a mysterious wooden box at a yard sale.  She is immediately attached to it.  She takes it home to her newly divorced father’s (Jeffery Dean Morgan) house.  Strange things begin to occur as Em opens the box.

Strangely nothing happens to Em when she is back at her Mother’s (Kyra Sedgwick) house.  But as soon she returns to her father’s house, Em slowly becomes “Possessed” by the ‘soul’ who does not want to be in that box anymore!

We see the drama that a newly divorced couple with kids goes through.  They hope that the changes they see in their daughter are the normal ones brought about with a divorce.  Unfortunately, Em gets darker and darker as her life force gets slowly sucked from her.

Some great scenes are shown once the demon starts it’s possession.  Fingers coming up Em’s throat, black moths invading a room, and the outline of a hand pressing against Em’s face as if the demon is becoming her.  Not to forget seeing the demon inside the young girl during an MRI.

The Exorcist’s hand can be felt throughout the film.  But really what movie about Possession isn’t.   The movie had wonderful bumps and scares, and the images that made us go OOOOOOOO and Yikes!

Fun movie for a night out this Halloween!
